Wilda Laverne (Knight) Sargent

Wilda Knight Sargent, of Tuscola, passed from this life on December 14, 2023. Visitation will be held at Fry-Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 19 from 10-12. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Tuscola at 2:00 with burial following in Tuscola Cemetery.

Wilda was born in Brownwood, Texas on September 7, 1948 to William Francis and Mozzell Knight. She grew up with 9 brothers and sisters and went to Goldthwaite High School.

She moved to Lawn, Texas over 50 years ago and raised her family to be Jim Ned Indians. She married Loyd Sargent and the two enjoyed 32 years of marriage. They moved to Tuscola in the mid 90's and have lived here ever since.

Wilda worked for many years in the food service industry at local cafes. She served many community members with a smile and sense of humor at Taylors Café in Lawn, Lantrip's and Vicki's in Tuscola.

Wilda enjoyed cooking and was well known for her homemade candies around the holidays. She enjoyed fishing, watching deer, farming, and like any true Texan, bar-b-que. She was an active member of her community and a big supporter of local fundraisers. When her health confined her to her house, she was active on social media and often posted positive comments about her friends and their families.

Wilda is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lynn and Leland Knight, and a grandson Cody Burleson. She is survived by brothers Bill, James, Paul, Allen, and Wayne Knight, sisters Wanda Oliver and Donna Horton, sister-in-law Betty Knight, sons Dale Burleson and wife Tina, James Burleson and wife Veronica, Jim Burleson and wife Kay, daughter Peggy Fugate and husband Brian, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Wilda was loved by her friends and family and will be deeply missed by them and the rest of the southern Taylor county community.
