SAN ANGELO: Victor John Merfeld, 92, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Park Plaza Nursing Center in San Angelo. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00am in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery, brothers Paige and Arlon Baize will officiate, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening October 8th from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home in Tuscola.
Victor was born November 30, 1922 on a farm near Greene, Iowa, to William Frederick and Mary Ann (Weber) Merfeld. He entered into the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Victor served for twelve years and five months finishing his enlistment after the Korean War and as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.
Victor always considered himself a farmer and rancher. He worked on his own place raising cattle and horses. He was a proud member of the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and the American Paint Horse Association.
He married Dianne Baize on November 25, 1981 in Shep, TX. They raised two children, Amanda and Billy.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Merfeld of San Angelo; daughter, Amanda Feil and husband David of Irving; son, William (Billy) Merfeld and wife Sara of San Angelo; granddaughter, Madison Merfeld; several nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Shannon Medical Center, Park Plaza Nursing Center, and Interim Hospice for the wonderful care and support.
