BUFFALO GAP: Terry Marshall Messerla, 71, passed away at his home in Buffalo Gap on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017, in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery at 3:30 pm, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home in Tuscola.
Terry was born in Saint Louis, MO on June 27, 1946, to Bob and Kay Messerla. He moved to Abilene as a child attending school and graduating from Cooper High School. He attended Cisco Junior College after high school.
He worked for the Abilene ISD, and then worked in the HVAC industry in sheet metal, and retired from Batjer & Associates. Terry was a simple man who was straightforward and honest. He loved drinking, smoking, and watching the Dallas Cowboys, or anything on TV. He loved his pets, never met a stranger, and was a loyal friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bob Messerla of Saint Louis, MO and Henry and Kay Sayles of Buffalo Gap, and one sister Karan Ann Hancock.
He is survived by two sisters, Kathy Dale Francis and husband Wayne of Jacksonville, FL, Karla Sue Reddell and husband Randy of Abilene; brother-in-law Buck Hancock of Goldsboro; and several nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Dr. #900 Arlington, VA 22202.
