On Thursday, July 25, 2019, Samuel Peak passed away at the age of 63 in Abilene, Texas.
Sam was born on February 1, 1956 in Abilene to Elbert G. and Ida Mae Peak. He attended Cooper High School and Hardin-Simmons University. Sam was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1973 to 1977, including service in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant (E5). He also served as a Texas Law Enforcement Officer in Taylor County. He married Brenda Jo Horn November 22, 1990. Together they raised five children.
Sam worked alongside his father, Dr. Elbert Peak, for Biblical Faith Ministries, teaching Torah classes and conducting tours to Israel.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of the Jewish people being a light to the nations. Sam truly fulfilled that mission. He taught a diverse group of students in the ways of G-d. He gently guided those just beginning their study of Torah and challenged those who, with his help, waded more deeply into their studies. He was fond of saying in his deep, infectious, Texas voice that we need to change the way we think. His lessons always left his students with much to consider. He has been a beloved teacher and friend to many.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Elbert, his mother, Ida Mae, and brothers-in-law David and Travis. He is survived by Brenda Peak (wife), Shonna Peak (daughter), Sarah and K.C. Lucas (daughter and son-in-law), Jessica Buck (daughter), Jesse and Terri Peak (son and daughter-in-law), Hannah and Christopher Beal (daughter and son-in-law), three grandchildren, sisters Lucy Kay Robinson and Gay Runnels, and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Services for Sam will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Lemons Gap Cemetery in Tuscola, Texas at 10:00am.
