Robert Donald

Robert Briggs Donald, 92, passed away from a brief illness on December 26, 2023 in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Potosi Cemetery at 2:00 pm in care of Fry-Smith Funeral Home.

RB was born in Big Spring, Texas on October 22, 1931 to William and Amy (Briggs) Donald. He was raised with his big sister, Doris Ann. Growing up, he and his family were no strangers to hand picking cotton. He graduated from Potosi High School and went on to Hardin Simmons Univeristy were he studied business. After he graduated from HSU, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954. In 1957, he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Jr. grade. During his time in the Navy, he served on a DD 730 Destroyer named the Collett that was stationed in the Pacific.

After his time in the service, he went to work for the United States Gypsum as a comptroller. He traveled all over the world with the company and retired in 1991.

He loved his family, his Brownwood Lake family, fishing, days on the golf course, tennis, and being on or near the water.

RB was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and cousins RD Gist and Willadean Brock. He is survived by William Newberry and his wife Terry, Robert Newberry and wife Susan, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

RB was a great man and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
