Raymond Smith, 75, of Abilene, TX, was surrounded by his family as he went to be with his wife on the evening of April 18, 2018.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was raised by his grandmother. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, later on transferred to the Army where he finished his military career. A proud Vietnam veteran, he attended any military event to show his support.
After moving to Texas he met and married the love of his life, Shirley. He found his greatest joy in raising 4 children, becoming a grandfather of 8 and great grandfather to 13. He considered all of them to be his kids. He soon became a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching them play. Being a man of faith, in 2004 he found his church home at Calvary Baptist Church where he was an active member of his church family and in his community.
Visitation will be held April 22, 2018 from four to six at Calvary Baptist Church, Abilene, TX. Services will be held at Calvary April 23, 2018 at 9:30 am with burial to follow at 11 am at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola, Tx.
