Randon Lenoy (Randy) Winter, 77, of Tuscola, passed away January 30, 2019 after a short, but hard battle with pancreatic cancer. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Friday, February 8, 2019, in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 7th, form 5 to 7:00pm at the funeral home in Tuscola.
He was born to Winston (W.O.) and Helen Pryor Winter (Turkett) on October 6, 1941 in Abilene, TX. He married Lorraine Davis Martin on April 4, 1997 in Abilene. He lived in Maljamar, NM, Plains, TX and Midland, TX before returning to Abilene. He had various jobs during his life including jobs with I.A. Palmer, Pat Dunigan, and Pride Refining, He was also a self-employed general contractor before working and retiring from Taylor County. Flying was a hobby he took up in the early 1970's getting his license to pilot private aircraft. He was a talented carpenter and loved building and remodeling. He completely remodeled the over hundred year old home he and Lorraine lived in. He also loved to hunt but his favorite outdoor hobby was fishing, passing on that love to his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He said he felt closest to God in his boat, on the lake at sunrise.
He is survived by his daughter, Brandi Mixon and husband Frank of Abilene; step-son, Gregory Martin and April of Rockwall; brothers Weston Winter and wife Barbara of Arlington; Ryan Winter of Katy; and sister Medriece Welch and husband Ronnie of Tuscola; granddaughters Katie Holland and husband MSGT Phillip Holland of San Antonio; and Chelsea Martin of Arlington; great-grandchildren Mattie Bryan, Philip Holland, David Martin, Andrew and Aiden Preslopski; nephews Todd Winter, Russell Winter, Christopher Winter, Joe Welch and nieces Staci Goff and Brittany Halbert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.O. Winter and Helen Turkett, his wife, Lorraine Winter, sister in law Elaine Winter, nephews DeWayne Winter, Jace Winter, and Austin Winter.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tommie Farrell and all of the nurses, staff, and volunteers at Hendrick Hospice Care for their compassionate and loving care during the last few weeks of Poppa’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, Cancer Services Network (Abilene) or their charity of choice.
