Patricia Ann Canning left this old world and arrived to her heavenly home and her Savior on February 5, 2025. A visitation will be held at Fry-Smith Funeral Home from 5-7pm on Wednesday, February 12. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13 at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery at 2:00pm.
Pat was born in Panama City, Florida on October 6, 1939 to parents Willie F. and Bertice V. Lucas. Pat and her late husband James R. Canning served in the U.S. military for almost 26 years. Patricia became a part of the Abilene Community in 1997. Pat worked for AISD for 19 years and made many friends. Known to many as "Aunt Pat", she loved her family. She loved to travel, spend time with family and talk about "the good ole days", send cards to family and friends (card ministry), read and study the Bible.
Her life's greatest lesson was "Pay attention to your parents for they are the greatest teachers and leaders."
She is preceded in death by her husband James Canning of 38 years, brother Howard Lucas, and sister Peggy Wingate.
She is survived by her brother Truett L. Lucas and wife Anita, brother Charles R. Lucas and wife Krista, sister Gwen Barrett and husband J.L., sister Diane Miller and husband Rodney, sister Wanda K. Pennington and husband Steve (deceased), and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
