Oscar White

October 15, 1931 — September 10, 2024

Oscar White passed from this life on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. A visitation will be held at Fry-Smith Funeral Home on Friday, September 20 from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 10am at the Church of the Fulness of God in Abilene, Texas.

Oscar was born on October 15, 1931 in Sonora, Texas to Fred and Wedessia White. Then they moved to the Elm Valley area where Oscar and his brother Frank and sister Nellie were raised on the ranch. Oscar worked in the oilfield and owned and ran J&O Oil Well Service. Oscar was one of the founding members of the E.C.C.A. Volunteer Fire Department in the Elm Valley area and he served with the department for many years.

Oscar enjoyed times with family and friends whether on a fishing trip or having his morning coffee. If there was a prank to be played and he was around, he more than likely was involved. He was willing to help out anyone who needed it. He had a kind and sweet heart as many will say. He always had a story or 'funny' as he would say and would have you laughing or smiling. He knew the history of the area well after being raised around here. He knew the stories passed down by family from days of Indians passing thru and when camp Barkley setup and when it left. There were many to be told here but not enough room.

He is preceded in death by his father Fred White, mother Wedessia White, wife Joyce White, brother Frank White and his wife Nora, son William (Bill) White, daughter Velma Barker and her husband Richard, and first wife Yvonne Davis.

He is survived by his sister Nellie Vatcher, stepson Raymond Bruton and his wife Phyllis, stepson Robert Bruton, grandson Michael Brock and his wife Rachel, grandson Richard Bruton and his wife Kim, granddaughter Brenda Bruton and great-grandchildren.

Oscar was kind and always willing to help. He will truly be missed and always loved, but we look ahead to the reunion with him as I'm sure he is having a reunion up there full of love and laughs.
