Born June 28, 1946, in Knox City, she was the seventh of eleven children born to to John Raymond and Maranda LeNora (Collins) Mullings. In Brownfield, Texas, she met and then later married the love of her life and best friend, Clarence King on November 5, 1962. Together they raised their three children.
Known to most everyone as "Grannyma", she spent her life loving anyone and everyone who would let her, and even a few against their will (although she won them over in the end). Grannyma had the kindest and most tender heart, and was able to find the good in every person. She was always looking for the next person to help. She gave selflessly in all aspects of her life and shared her love in heaping measurements.
Grannyma served as a Sunday School teacher in the three- and four-year-old's classroom at Lawn Baptist Church for many years and taught several generations of children about Jesus and His love for them. She also worked for and then retired from the Jim Ned CISD cafeteria after twenty-five years of baking, serving, and touching the hearts and lives of countless students and staff with her famous rolls. She then worked another eleven years at The Homeplace where she provided award winning service before retiring from there as well. Grannyma didn't see retirement as a chance to slow down but instead spent her time baking, sewing, and crafting for others and was often heard saying "I found a new recipe".
Nora Ellen King is preceded in death by her parents, John Raymond and Maranda LeNora Mullings, brothers Paul Raymond Mullings, William GR Mullings, London Ray Mullings, Jerry MacAuthor Mullings, and Terry Lynn Mullings, and one great-grand Baby King born into Heaven.
She leaves behind her husband of fifty-nine years, Clarence King, son Brian King and wife Tammie, daughters Mel Bradshaw, and Laurie Voce and husband Patrick, grandchildren Kole King and wife Christi, Kara King, Kali King, Collin Tate and wife Sarah, Ian Voce, Evan Tate, Carlie Voce, and Aiden Voce,as well as great-grandchildren Charly King, Case King, Cooper King, Theo Tate, and Norah Tate.
Although we know that she is happy and healed in heaven, she leaves behind a sugar cookie sized hole in the lives of those she loved. Birthdays will never be the same without hearing her sing to us in her special way.
Grannyma, we love you more than green ice-cream.
Grannyma requested that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to On the Way Home Ministries. This was a special ministry to her that she spent many hours making jelly, jams, salsa, and other homemade items for.
