Minnie Allene Swanzy passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at her home in Buffalo Gap. A funeral service will be held 1:30pm, Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Buffalo Gap Church of Christ, Kerry Jones officiating, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, from 6 to 8:00pm at the funeral home in Tuscola.
Minnie was born in Noodle, to Burtis and Johnnie Ruth (Montgomery) Sharp. She attended school in Abilene, leaving early to help care for her family. She went to work in the restaurant industry for Mack Eplen's at the downtown restaurant and then the Driveateria on North 1st. She continued her career in cooking as the kitchen manager for Abilene Christian Schools, and then opening Swanzy' Homestyle Meals where her chicken spaghetti became famous. She retired from cooking in 2018. Her biggest enjoyment was getting to know each one of her customers.
She married Bill Swanzy in 1960 and they welcomed three children into their family.
When Minnie was not cooking sixty pounds of chicken spaghetti it was not uncommon to find her in her car racing her family around town. She followed her kids and grand kids' school and sports closely. She enjoyed sewing and gospel music from the Gaither's to Elvis.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Swanzy; sons Billy Mack Swanzy and wife Kayla, Robert and Sandra Swanzy, both of Buffalo Gap; daughter, Misti Swanzy of Buffalo Gap; brothers, Charles Ray Sharp of Granbury; Jack Sharp of Abilene; and Joe Sharp of Eula; grandchildren, Tallen and wife Taylor Swanzy, Mackenzie Swanzy, Eris and husband Christopher Solomon. Minnie is also survived by two great-grandchildren True and Dakota Swanzy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Burtis and Johnnie Ruth Sharp, brothers; Bobby and Donnie Sharp, and granddaughter Lauren Swanzy.
