OVALO: Linda Marie (Pettus) Stockton, 82, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at her home in Ovalo. A funeral service will be held at 1:30pm, Monday, October 31, 2022, in the Tuscola United Methodist Church, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30, from 4 to 6pm at the funeral home.
Linda was born on August 18, 1940, in Big Spring to H B and Mary Etta (Sample) Pettus. Her father was a gin manager and the family moved from gin to gin. She attended school in Knott, Big Spring, Brown, Ackerley, Garden City, South Taylor, and had the honor of being the first Jim Ned Valedictorian. She then attended Tarleton State College for two years and finished her bachelor's in education at North Texas State. Linda taught school at Elmdale and then for Jim Ned. She retired early to help her husband, Loy, with the farm and their children.
Linda enjoyed painting and writing her column in the local paper. She loved her Church and community and was faithfully active in both. She was a very positive person who was gentle but strong.
She is survived by her son, Steve Stockton and Julia; grandchildren, Hugh John, Jacqueline, Parker, Loy, Nathan, Kevin, Billy, and Iris; sisters-in-laws Johnnie Boatman and Carol Sue Ransom; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Loy (2016), daughter, Deidra Stockton (2017), and grandson, Jimmy Stockton (2018).
