Lester Wayne (Nelson) Nelson

April 3, 1953 — October 8, 2021

ABILENE: Lester Nelson, 68, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021. A visitation with a viewing will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 5 to 7pm at Fry~Smith Funeral Home in Tuscola.

Lester was born in Abilene to Gerald and Gladys (Hindman) Nelson on April 3, 1953, he grew up in the Abilene aera and attended school in Clyde. He went to work in the oilfield and continued working the oilfield during the up cycles, when the oilfield was down, he worked in construction and ranching. Lester could work and fix almost anything that he was around.

He married Diann Finch on December 21, 1974, in Abilene, they welcomed one son Aaron a few years later.

He was a true Texas when it came to storytelling, his grandkids did not know when Papa was telling a “story” or telling the truth. He would always remind them that he was telling the story and say “Would Papa tell you a story?”.  Lester has a passion for John Wayne and his westerns along with a 55 Chevy Bel Air hard top. It has become evident that Lester was very sentimental, when cleaning his shop and room the family found many childhood keeps sakes from Lester’s son Aaron.

Lester is survived by wife, Diann of Abilene; son, Aaron Nelson and wife Mitzi; grandchildren, Emarie, Tristan and Brylie.

He proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Mike and Willie Nelson (no not that one).

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Leaving behind a legacy of family.

Condolences can be left at www.fry-smith.com.
