Laura was born at home in Nolan county on Christmas Eve, 1932. She and her twin brother made children numbers 5 and 6 in the family. She graduated from Nolan High School in 1950. While working in a pharmacy soda shop, she met her future husband, Bill Thornton. Bill and Laura were married on March 10, 1951 and she became an instant mother to a toddler, Billy Jr. A few years later, she and Bill welcomed Danny, who completed their family that she so dearly loved.
Loving, frugal, and with a great sense of humor, Laura was an amazing homemaker who also worked part time at Truett's Grocery Store, in Tuscola. She enjoyed cooking (then eating), and shopping- especially for purses. She and Bill loved ladies basketball and were huge supporters of the Jim Ned Lady Indians and ACU Lady Wildcats. They enjoyed traveling all over Texas and beyond to cheer these teams on to victory. She and Bill were dedicated members of the Tuscola Church of Christ and then at the Lawn Church of Christ, each volunteering at the church they loved.
She is survived by her son Danny and wife Rita; two granddaughters, Angela and husband Ismael, Amy and husband Philip: and two great grandchildren, Blayke and D.J.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2013, her son Billy Jr. in 2018, her parents and all of her siblings.
