Larry Ray Gill was born in Winters, Texas to James Orval and Nona Quay (Sneed) Gill, on March 30, 1944. The family lived in Tuscola, Texas until Orval became a Police Officer for Abilene and the family moved to the city. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1963 and joined the Navy. He was a Beachmaster Radioman and traveled the world as well as served during the Vietnamese War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1990.
