Joseph Doherty, 82, beloved father, was called to his eternal resting place on Monday, February 12, 2018, at his home in Ovalo. He entered this world on November 9, 1935, born to Walter and Margaret Doherty.
Joseph's parents signed for him to enlist in the United States Air Force at the Age of seventeen. At the age of eighteen, he was serving in the Korean War for his country. He served from 1953, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant in 1973.
He owned and operated Doherty Service Co. in Abilene, for many years. He was a long-time resident of Callahan County with his wife, Doris "DoeDoe" of 50 years until she preceded in him in death in 2012.
Joseph, as he was known by "Poor Ole Joe" is survived by his daughter, Lois Cronin, and husband, Dan of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Karen Rutledge of Abilene; son, David Doherty and wife Karen, of Ovalo; sister Helen Withers; seven grandchildren, Zach Skiles, Caleb Skiles, Leanna Ball, Daniel Cronin all of Wichita, Kansas; Christopher Rutledge of Abilene, Tosha Doherty of Georgetown, Lindsey Doherty of Lubbock; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother Walley and sister Barbra.
