A visitation will be held on Sunday February 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Fry~Smith Funeral Home.
Johnny was born on May 15, 1954, in Winters, Texas to Buril Dean and Peggy LaNelle “Ainsworth” Hudson. He was the middle child of five siblings. He graduated from Jim Ned High School in 1972 and then attended Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI) majoring in Heating/AC. After his graduation, he taught heating and air conditioning at TSTI and eventually went to work at Airco A/C and Heating and then Quality Heating and Cooling. He went to work for WTU, now AEP, in 1998 maintaining buildings in Abilene and West Texas. He retired from AEP after 10 years of service.
Johnny had a passion for helping people and he never met a stranger. He was selfless and never said “no” to helping someone. He loved to draw since he was thirteen years old. He entertained a lot of children, especially his nine nieces and nephews, with his drawings. He was talented with his metal work and he was most proud of his model drill ship he built. Johnny’s artwork can often be seen on the side of houses in southern Taylor County in the form of homeowners’ last name scrolled in flat steel. He was on the Lawn VFD for over thirty years, mayor of Lawn for over twenty years, and president of the Dewey Cemetery Association. He was dedicated to helping with fundraising for the annual Lawn Fall Festival.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buril Dean and Peggy Hudson.
He is survived by his sister, Peggy Oakley of Austin; brother, Jim Hudson and wife Kim of Lawn; sister Laura Joy of Lawn; and sister, Teresia Froboese of San Antonio. Ten nieces and nephews: Steven New, Cathy Oakley, Stacy Peters, Whitney Cloud, Jordan Adams, Zach Hudson, Thomas New, Jerad Pierson, Cody Groves and Jena Pierson, as well as eighteen grand nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.Parkinson.org) or Dewey Cemetery, P.O. Box 97, Lawn, TX 79530.
