Gene Rogers

TUSCOLA: Barton Eugene ‘Gene’ Rogers, 84, of Tuscola, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2018. He was born on April 21, 1934, in Wingate, Texas, to C. L. ‘Dock’ and Edna Woods Rogers.

Gene attended Wingate and Winters Schools. He graduated from Winters High School in 1951, and then attended Hardin Simmons University. Gene worked in the oil and gas industry before retiring to full-time ranching.

Gene married Kay Rita Bryan in 1954 and to that marriage his daughters Tanna, Lisa and Gena were born. In 1963, Gene married Royann (Anne) Lee and to that union Louanne was born.

Gene is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Tanna Jaquess and Tom of San Angelo, Lisa Marks and Ricky of Brownwood, Gena King and Robert of Ballinger, and Louanne Stanley and Micki of Brownwood. He is also survived by step-children, Theresa Kennemer, Dena Souder and Jody Weaver. Gene is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Fry-Smith Funeral Home in Tuscola. A celebration of life will be held at the Ovalo Baptist Church in Ovalo, Texas, on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at the Counts Cemetery.

Pallbearers are grandsons Stephen King, Jared Marks, Trey Allen, David Jaquess, Cody Allen, and long-time friend, Larry Henderson. Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandsons, step son, Jody Weaver and Gene's good friends, John Griggs and Bob Eisenberg.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Royann Lee Rogers and his parents, Dock and Edna Rogers.
