Doyle E. Shamblin passed from this life on March 22, 2024. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at Fry-Smith Funeral Home in Tuscola, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11:00am at Dewey Cemetery in Lawn.
Doyle was born on February 11, 1930, near Goldsboro, Texas, to Arch and Ruth Day Shamblin. The youngest of five children, Doyle spent his childhood years around Goldsboro and attended school in Novice, Texas. He graduated from high school there in 1947. In 1951, during the Korean conflict, he was drafted into the Army. He expected to be sent to Korea, but instead he spent his time in the service in Germany. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953.
Before leaving for Germany, Doyle became engaged to Cathlee Sue Rose of Morton, Texas. Shortly after returning home, he and Sue were married on June 12, 1953, sealing a love story that lasted more than 70 years. The couple made their home in Novice where Doyle worked various oil field jobs before finally joining the Valero Energy Company. He spent most of his career serving as plant superintendent for that company. He received multiple recognitions for outstanding work. The company moved him and Sue around to several different Texas towns through the years, but after his retirement, they settled in Tuscola, Texas where they lived until they moved to a retirement community in Abilene a few years ago.
Doyle's favorite activity was fishing. He and Sue spent many vacations pulling their travel trailer around the country to some lake or river where they would make camp and spend their days fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Doyle was an outstanding story-teller and loved telling tales about his many life experiences. He had an amazing memory for details until time eventually robbed him of that gift.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ed Shamblin and J.W. Shamblin, and his sisters Charlene Kelley and Geraldine Stokes.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Shamblin, his son, David Jeffery Shamblin, four grandchildren Jessica Lewis, Hunter Shamblin, Nichole James, Emily Dominy, his five great grandchildren, and several great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Doyle was a kind soul and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
