ABILENE: Doris Elleen Poindexter, 92, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019. A funeral service will be Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10:00a.m. at Lawn Baptist church, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola, Texas. A visitation is planned for Monday, February 4, 2019 from 5 to 7p.m. at the funeral home.
Doris was born on August 10, 1926 in Brownfield, Texas to Freeman and Theckler Rodgers. Growing up in Brownfield, she attended school until she began work in the cotton fields for the family farm.
She married Gene Poindexter on July 31, 1951 in Abilene. Doris was a homemaker while Gene worked as a pipe liner for El Paso Natural Gas. Upon his retirement, Gene farmed, and Doris enjoyed canning their harvests.
Doris enjoyed crocheting and loved to do puzzles, her favorite being crosswords, and later, computer games up until her passing.
She is survived by two daughters Sandy Polsue and husband Mark of Abilene, and Billie Jean Fannin of Abilene; grandsons, Tanner Fannin and wife Haylie of Baird, and Hunter Fannin of Abilene; granddaughter, Cindy Burns & Kevin of Richardson, and one great-grandson, Michael Taylor.
Doris was preceded by her husband; daughter, Linda Schultz; grandson, Michael D. Taylor; one sister and two brothers.
