Connie Rae Viehland passed from this life on Monday morning, August 26, 2024 in her home in Tuscola, Texas. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30 from 5-7pm at Fry-Smith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 9:30am the Buffalo Gap Cemetery on Saturday, August 31. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at: 11302 Pecan St. in Buffalo Gap.
Connie was born on September 3, 1945, in St. Charles, Missouri to Elgar Olin and Ada Fern Weeks. She graduated Wentzville High School. After graduation, Connie married Lenny Viehland (now deceased) and the two started their family. Later, they relocated to Texas.
Connie had a remarkable impact on those around her. With a caring nature and firm belief in second chances, Connie was someone who truly valued personal growth and supported others in reaching their full potential. She was a great source of encouragement and inspiration.
Connie worked various jobs in Houston before moving to Abilene. After serving in managerial positions at fast food restaurants and grocery stores, Connie was offered the opportunity to manage Duetschlander Freshwater Catfish Co in Buffalo Gap, which she did for several years. Her legacy there began in March 1999, and after working tirelessly, her hard work ultimately led to buying and running the beloved restaurant. In March 2021, she sold the restaurant and retired, leaving behind a lasting impact through the many lifelong relationships she built and the positive influence she had on her community.
Connie is survived by her children, Tina West and husband Cody of Hamby, Stacey Moore and husband Tim of San Antonio, Joe Viehland and wife Tricia of Fernley, NV; her sister Wanda Schmid of Erie, Pennsylvania, her brother in law John Viehland and wife Sue; her partner Gary White and his family; six grandchildren, Jasmine Rader, Zac Moore, Austin Moore, Oren West, MacKenzie Viehland, and Dylan Viehland; and great grands Daxtn Rader and one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hari Kalla and staff at Texas Oncology, Dr. Ezekiel Duke, nurses from various hospital visits on Anderson 3, Collier 6, and Parker 7, and the Hendrick Hospice Nurses Sarah, Jessica, Michelle, and Jillian.
