Sue Shamblin

April 18, 1934 — December 6, 2024

Cathlee Sue Shamblin peacefully passed from this life after 90 years on Friday, December 6, 2024. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 13 at 5-7pm at Fry-Smith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 at Dewey Cemetery.

Sue was born near Lawn, Texas to Bonnie Monroe Rose and Lottie Aldridge Rose on April 18, 1934, the third of six children. She spent her young childhood years in the Lawn/Content area where she enjoyed the company of her siblings and her many cousins, but the family moved to Morton, Texas, when she was around 14 years old. She attended high school in Morton and graduated from there in 1952. A year after her graduation, on June 12, 1953, she married Doyle Eugene Shamblin of Goldsboro, to whom she remained married for more than seventy years.

She and Doyle made their home in Novice, Texas, where they lived for several years. While in Novice, Sue gave birth to their only child, David Jeffery Shamblin. Sue loved being a stay-at-home mom and taking care of her family, often including her younger siblings. Doyle began working for Valero Energy Company which required frequent moves to various locations around Texas. However, after his retirement, they settled in Tuscola, Texas, where they lived for many years before moving to a retirement community in Abilene.

Sue and Doyle loved doing everything together, especially fishing and camping. They spent many vacations pulling their travel trailer around the country to a river or lake where they would make camp and spend their days fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Sue had an easy, contagious laugh that drew people to her. Being around her was always fun!

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters, Jean Shamblin and Von Dean Elkins, and her brother, David Joe (Bo) Rose.

She is survived by her son, David Jeffery, her four grandchildren including Jessica Lewis, Hunter Shamblin, Nicole James, and Emily Dominy, five great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Moore and her brother Danny Rose, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. (The family wishes to give special thanks to the employees of Clear Path Home Care for the loving care they gave to both Doyle and Sue during the last years of their lives. We will always be grateful!)
