Bruce Harris

April 2, 1948 — March 30, 2025

Bruce Arthur Harris, 76, joined the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at his home in Ovalo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 5, at Lawn Baptist Church with Pastor Roy C. Keith of Tuscola Methodist Church officiating. All family and friends are invited to stay for a celebration of Bruce's life, which will take place immediately following the service from 3-5pm in the Lawn Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Bruce was born April 2, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Arthur T. Harris and Lillian Theodora Fonda Harris. Bruce spent most of his childhood enjoying the outdoors, including tubing, fishing, and snow skiing. He attended and graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, proudly serving from 1968 to 1972. Bruce was a proud Minnesotan but got to Texas as fast as he could thanks to the Air Force. While serving in Texas, he met Gloria Sue Gill, and they were joined together as husband and wife on August 1, 1970, in Abilene, Texas. Together they formed the Bruce-n-Sue team co-parenting and co-grandparenting for 54 and a half years.

Bruce was a firm believer in hard work. He was a licensed plumber and self-taught in many other specialties including sprinkler system installation, carpentry, electrical work, and home building. He volunteered for many years on the board of Steamboat Mountain Water Supply Corporation. Following his retirement, Bruce volunteered at Abilene Regional Hospital delivering mail and greeting visitors. He was probably most well known for his almost 30 years working and serving the community at Plastic Wholesale Plumbing, Inc.

Bruce leaves a lasting legacy of loved ones. He is survived by his wife Sue Harris; his children Wendi and Kit Payne of Ovalo, Tommy and Amy Harris of Paradise; his grandchildren Andi Elizabeth Payne Johnson and Payden Johnson of Granbury, Rhett Harris Payne and Ashley Byrom Payne of Amarillo, Xander Bruce Harris of Paradise, and Hayley Fayth Harris of Paradise; his sister Barbara Wulff of Fort Myers, Florida; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended and adopted family members, as well as cherished friends, especially his "Sunday Dinner crew."

Bruce was welcomed to heaven by his parents, beloved sister Diane Elizabeth Hudalla and brother Thomas Frederick Harris, as well as whole host of friends and relatives.
