TUSCOLA: Billie June Drummond, 90, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Amarillo, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Fry-Smith Funeral Home, 502 Kent Ave, Tuscola, Texas.
On November 7, 1930 Billie was born to George Briggs and Beatrice Teague Briggs in Coleman, Texas. Billie grew up and attended school in Coleman where she met and married Martin Hicks. Their marriage took them to Amarillo, Texas where they raised their five children. Billie loved country music and she loved to dance. She and Martin were avid Square Dancers.
Billie later married James K. Drummond in Portales, New Mexico. They also made their home in Amarillo. Throughout her life she was a waitress and was the restaurant manager at the Elks Lodge in Amarillo. Billie was a strong and loving woman who was a caregiver to everyone she knew. She was an immaculate housekeeper, excellent cook and always loved a good game of Canasta with her family. Billie was at her happiest when she was taking care of her family and many others. Billie was a member of the Baptist Church.
Billie is survived by her children Georgia (Gene) Adams of Phoenix, Arizona, Billy (Ann) Hicks of Tuscola, Deanna (Rick) Gilbreath of Bowie, Texas, Joe (Karen) Hicks of Tuscola, Donna Henson (Mack) of Grand Prairie, Texas, special cousin Jimmy (Jan) Berry of Amarillo, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and many extended family.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Drummond, brother Howard Briggs, granddaughter, Denni June Hicks, and ex-husband Martin Hicks.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX 79605, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, www.alzfdn.org or your favorite charity.
