Betty Jean (Gorman) Ham of Lawn went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 15, 2018 just 2 days short of her 88th birthday. Services, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, will be held at Tuscola Methodist Church, 702 7th St. Tuscola, Texas at 2 pm Saturday, March 17, 2018, officiated by Ryan Goodwin and Marcy Grun; there will not be a visitation.
Betty was born March 17, 1930 in Cisco to Mary Reba and David Gorman. Betty graduated from Cisco High School and continued to attended Cisco Junior College where she was a Wrangler Belle in 1947, which was the yell squad at that time. Betty sold Avon when her children were young in order to be available for their various activities and once they were older she went to work for Timex until they closed their doors. She then went on to be a caregiver at the Abilene State School for individuals with special needs, retiring in 1992. For those that knew Betty, she was known to be passionate about people and animals whether it be attending various children or grandchildren’s activities, adopting all the strays that where left at the farm, caring for people with special needs, or volunteering at church. She was always eager to show support and do what she could to help her family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David Gorman, and her former husband, Don Ham.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son Mark and wife Anna Ham of Boyd; her daughter Suzann and husband Larry Sharp of Tuscola; grandchildren Monica Sharp of Abilene, Karli and husband Chase Fain of Amarillo, Jared Sharp of Tuscola and his fiancé Cici Gossett of Wichita Falls, Megan Ham and Stormy Ferrell of Abilene, Jennifer and husband Cody Brown of Abilene, Robby and wife of Paradise, Britney French and husband of Decatur; great-grandchildren including Mackenzie Ferrell and Lane Brown both of Abilene; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
