Betty (Hastings) Borde

August 22, 1947 — May 3, 2016

ABILENE: Betty Lou Borde, 68, passed away May 3, 2016 at her family’s home after a long hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. A funeral service will be held at the graveside in the Rogers Cemetery on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:00pm, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday May 5, from 6 to 8pm at the First Baptist Church in Tuscola.

Betty was born on August 22, 1947 to Marion and Marugerette (Whiteaker) Hastings in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She married Gary Borde on May 16, 1981 in Arlington.

Betty retried from Amway after twenty-five years of service, she started in the warehouse and retired as inventory control manager.

She loved and enjoyed her flower garden and tending to it. Her passion were animals, mainly dogs. She was never without her favorite pet Abby, a miniature Yorkie that she often kept in her purse when she traveled.

Betty was a caring and a giving spirit, who would give the shirt off her back. Her caring spirit shined brightly when she cared for her mother during her final days.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Robyn Hardi of League City; sisters Marilyn Mayfield and husband Dave of Tuscola, Diane Krummenacher and husband Bruce of Warrenville IL; cousin and caregivers Jerry Vernon and wife Peggy of Abilene, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary Borde (dec1998), daughter Denise Stokes (dec 2009), sister, Carolyn Sanders (dec 2011), and brother, David Hastings (dec 1985).
