Bettie L (Christian) Mashburn
February 23, 1936 — August 19, 2017
Bettie Lurose Christian Mashburn went to her Heavenly Home to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Bettie was a lifelong resident of Abilene, where she was born on February 23, 1936 to Cora Lee and Benjamin Taylor Christian.
A viewing will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Fry-Smith Funeral Home in Tuscola, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 :00 a.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Potosi Baptist Church 2826 Potosi Rd Abilene, Texas 79602, with internment to follow in Potosi Cemetery.
Bettie attended Elmdale school and South Junior High School before graduating from Abilene High School in 1954. That same year she married Bobby Dell Mashburn on September 25, following a year-long courtship after meeting on a blind date.
She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and homemaker who was known for her delicious yeast rolls and many other tasty dishes. She loved reading, cats, gardening, ceramics, sewing, cooking and entertaining. Her lifelong dream was to become a nurse.
Bettie worked at the Abilene Reporter News in the 1950's and then with her husband at their business, Industrial Electric Co., until the mid1970's. She later worked at Abilene Linen Supply and for the Whiteside Tank & Supply.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Mashburn of San Antonio; Gretchen Hendley and husband Scott of Potosi; sister, Dora Sue Christian of Abilene; grandson, Cy Gregory of Burleson; granddaughter, Sydne Cunningham and husband Jeff of Abilene, and dear family friends, Susan Ryman of San Antonio and Wanda Jewell of Coleman, along with many other friends, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
