Al Ochoa

August 16, 1946 — September 29, 2016

Alfredo Ochoa Jr., 70, beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather was called to his eternal resting place on Thursday, September 29, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the Ovalo Baptist Church, Bro. Pat Voce officiating, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation was held on Friday, September 30, at the funeral home in Tuscola.

Al entered this world on August 16, 1946 in Donna, Tx, to Alfredo Ochoa, Sr. and Martina (Muniz) Ochoa. Al attended school in Ovalo and various towns in Texas where farm work took his family. He graduated from Wayland Baptist College with an associates degree in criminal justice.

He served active duty in the United Stated Army from 1965 to 1967 as a Sergeant in the Military Police, and then active reserve until 1972. On August 31, 1968, Al married the love of his life Lilly Quintanilla in Plainview Texas, and welcomed his only child Jeffrey in 1970.

In his younger years Al worked various jobs including the oil fields, and was also a police officer in Plainview and Grand Prairie Texas. He retired as a security officer/fireman from LTV after 25 years of service.

Upon his retirement, Al returned to his hometown of Ovalo, where he enjoyed serving his church, visiting family and friends. Al's hobbies included cooking and gardening and finding anything he could do to be outside. His favorite time was being with his four grandchildren, Ryan, Diego, Jovie, and Gavin who loved their Popo very much. They were his pride and joy. He was also known as Big Al to his nephews, nieces and god daughter and any young person who met him. He loved cooking for anybody who came by the house or when he took food to church, Brother Pat said no one ever left hungry.

Al will be remembered for his quick temper, active personality, feeding armies of family and friends, hearty appetite, his famous hot sauce, but most of all his great love for family and friends.

Al is survived by his wife Lilly Ochoa of Ovalo; son Jeff and wife Monica Ochoa of Frisco; brothers, Edward and Dora Ochoa of Granbury, Joe and Cindy Ochoa of Thrall, Ubaldo and Ninfa Ochoa of Lockney, Raul and Ninfa Ochoa of Ovalo, Leroy and Janie Ochoa of Abilene, Richard and Virginia of Lawn; and sister Ida May Jimenez of Grand Prairie, a host of nephews and nieces.

Al is preceded in death by his parents Alfredo Sr. and Martina Ochoa, brother Elias Ochoa, sisters Elia and Belia Ochoa, and brother in law Roland Jimenez.

The Ochoa Family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to his Nurse's Ashley and Lisa, from the Texoma Medical Center, for their compassion and caring, as well as Liz and Riley from Texoma EMS for going above and beyond to get him home where he spent his last days surrounded by family and friends, and his niece Val Jimenez who took over his final care.
