Waldon Earl "Button" May, an old rancher, cowboy through and through, and great man broke the tethers of this world at home in South Taylor county, on June 30th, 2023. Joining the bunch May 16, 1957, he was the last of four children born to Waldon and Frances May.
A graduate of Jim Ned High and a member of the 1974 football state finalist team, he went on to attend Tarleton State University. After, he returned home to pursue his passion of cattle ranching. He married Donna Bell in January of 1981, and they raised two daughters, Keely and Malorie. He lived up to his "one of a kind" legacy, and was the most protective and best dad around.
On June 4, 2005, Button married Cheryl Mason. Residing in South Taylor county, they enjoyed hosting a vast collection of family and friends for many events, including their annual 4th of July bash. A loving and supportive husband, he was sure to always put Cheryl first until his very last breath.
Not only dedicated to his family, Button was the greatest and most loyal friend and worker. He took pride in his passion for ranching, and enjoyed finishing out his life working the Windham Beard ranch in Oplin, Texas.
A husband, father, grandfather, and the glue of the May family, Button leaves behind many who continue to carry his memory. Button was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Cheryl Featherston and Mardean Berg. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cheryl May; daughter Keely Ward and husband Colton; daughter Malorie McBath and husband Darcel; granddaughters Ansleigh McBath and Kaisleigh Ward; grandson Duke McBath; sister Weegee Johnson and husband Eddie; brother-n-law David Berg; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Your labor is done, your home now is heaven; no more must you wait,
Your legacy lives on, your love of the land, and we will close the gate.
